This course assumes little or no knowledge of playing bridge, though you will find it a little easier if you have played some card games in the past. It consists of two 10 week sessions delivered in The Melville Bridge Club by one of our accredited teachers. The course will use materials created by the Scottish Bridge Union so you can be sure you will be learning the most modern conventions. As with all of our courses, classes take the form of some theory followed by some card play with plenty of opportunity to ask questions. There is a quiz sheet for each lesson which is reviewed at the start of the next lesson. As well as all the material handed out in the class, students may log-on to the Web site to download additional material and ask questions of their tutors. | Week | Term 1 | Term 2 | | 1 | Introduction and basic terminology . | Responses (I) | | 2 | Mini-bridge as a lead-in | Responses (II) | | 3 | Basic Play (I) | Rebids | | 4 | Basic Play (II) | Declarer Play | | 5 | Bidding | Defender Play | | 6 | Scoring | Signalling to partner | | 7 | Bidding | Overcall | | 8 | Bidding Systems(I) | Coping with overcalls | | 9 | Bidding Systems (II) | First Convention (Stayman) | | 10 | Bidding and play in 'No Trumps' | Take-Out Doubles |
