Ian decided to return to teaching bridge after retiring from his job as a Computer Systems Administrator in 2009. He hasn't played much since 2000 but has continued to write the weekly bridge column for Scotland on Sunday.
He was fortunate to have had the honour of captaining the Scottish Open team in the first two European Championships it played in. After spending three weeks managing internationalists, their egos and their spouses, he finds teaching to people at the start of their bridge careers a wonderfully relaxing and rewarding experience. |

Eric was a Dutch international and a teacher before retiring from bridge in 1978 at the age of 28. He recently returned to playing active bridge.
When Mike Ash invited him to teach at the Melville Bridge Academy, Eric gladly accepted. He hopes to show his students that playing bridge is not only an important social activity, but also fun!

Laura Middleton |

Laura currently teaches bridge part time which fits well with looking after her two children. She has been teaching bridge for the past 5 years. As someone who started bridge not that long ago herself, she can remember what it is like to be a student of the game. Her aim is to encourage lots of newcomers to what is a most fascinating and enjoyable game. She says “I see many parallels to my other hobby golf – you can play bridge at all levels whether a scratch handicap or a 36 and still enjoy it”. |
